If the controller card was the problem, the computer should recognize the drive within a few seconds, install necessary drivers, and you'll have access to your data again. Go to your local computer store (or go online) and purchase something like this:Īttach the hard drive from the external enclosure to the device and plug it in USB. Search for "open external enclosure" plus the brand of hard drive it is.ĭisconnect the cables inside the case, and remove the drive inside. Given that data recovery is over a grand and a new external hard drive is about a tenth of that, I'd first explore any possibility of simple solutions, and if that didn't work: I had a case where I opened up a Google Browser back on an older computer and got called away to do something else.Forgive me if this sounds over-simplistic, but have you tried turning the drive off and switching USB ports? Switching USB cables? Making sure you're using the right power cord for the external (I have multiple, and so I always have to check)? When I came back, my fan was screaming and the disk activity light was going nuts. I checked task manager and CPU was at 100%. I had nothing else running other than the Chrome Browser was opened. I didn't have any add-ons and I keep things at startup to a minimum. 2nd Solution: 1.Turn on your laptop and keep pressing F12. Keep pressing D even when its beeping ,Dont leave it untill the screen turns green and Blue. 2.COnnect battery and before turning on the computer, press D on keyboard. I checked a little deeper and my hard disk was being read, It was Google taking over my computer.Īnd the disk activity light would have been very helpful if it wasn't for the fan screaming. 1.Unplug battery and leave the laptop without battery for 1 minute. Fan slowly calmed down, not immediate but it went back to normal where I didn't even hear it.Īs soon as I closed the browser, everything calmed down. I didn't like the idea my hard drive data was being read and I try and stay away from Chrome. According to the research report, the LED can be forced to blink at up to 5800 blinks per second, which is a rate that isn’t able to be perceived by the human eye. Google collects data and some day they are not going to be able to do that. Thats another story and one of myĪgain, disk activity light is very useful in my book. I want to know when my hard drive is actively doing something without having to open task manager and look at disk and performance activity. To the people commenting about the LED consuming power: are you really serious? You know that LED uses a tiny bit of power, right? This is so interesting to see the division! I wonder if it would help / hurt a presidential candidate if they were to state whether they like the light or not? :) I am going to check out the link in this thread. To the one asking about the make and model I’m referring to, the Lenovo P50 is the one my daughter is using. The P52 also has a light, but they have some serious QC issues and we had to go with the Dell Precision 7530’s that don’t have a light. What Dell models (other than their Rugged line) have a light? The HP Z Book doesn’t have a light either. I’ll never forget the first time I upgraded a production laptop from a spinning HDD to an SSD. The hard drive light was like BRRRT, as the Windows 7 loading screen came and went in just a couple of seconds. HARD DISK LED LIGHT NOT BLINKING ON STARTUP OF PTOP WINDOWS 7 It was AWESOME! To me it is the equivalent of having a visual tachometer on my hard drive. Kind of like when you hear something unfamiliar when you drive your car one day. When I see the hard drive light just solidly lit when it is on battery power and supposedly idle, I want to know about that instead of rely on some power preserving subsystem of MS or OEM. Ubiquiti stuff - ACTUALLY IN STOCK right now! Networking. And one more thing, if the light were to come back by popular demand, I want to be able to see all the status lights even with the lid closed. Heads up for those who are struggling to find Ubiquiti gear in stock.I just found Wifi6 Lites in stock for $99 at store.ui.com. HARD DISK LED LIGHT NOT BLINKING ON STARTUP OF PTOP WINDOWS 7.
